About Us

Kerala Highway Research Institute (KHRI), established in 1972, is the only research institute under the Kerala Public Works Department (PWD). KHRI focuses on promoting applied research & piloting projects for innovative technologies, Training & Capacity Building of the Engineering wing, and Improvements in Quality of Construction and Material Testing. The institute is situated at Karyavattom. In its about 50 years long journey, KHRI has strived its best to contribute to the public infrastructure development of the state. In the new era of technology and development, KHRI is undergoing a critical transformation to embrace the upcoming technological advancement and be the Centre of Excellence in the Public Infrastructure Industry.  KHRI is collaborating with several premier institutes in India like the IIT’s, CSIR Laboratories etc., conducting research and executing piloting studies to impart the cutting edge technology to Kerala Public Works.  KHRI is spearheading innovation not just in the Public Works Department but the whole Public Infrastructure sector of Kerala- by organizing National Research Conferences providing a platform to bring together industrialists, academicians and the general public and becoming a One-Stop Solution for all Public Infrastructure Challenges of Kerala. For ensuring utmost quality in material testing, KHRI houses an NABL accredited Laboratory with a facility for nearly 100 test parameters. KHRI also houses a technical library, seminar halls, conference hall, residential training facility, advanced computing facilities and is building facilities to incorporate technologies like augmented reality, climate-resilient models etc., to the construction industry.
